[Resolved] Downgrading from 3.72 to Cobra CFW using E3 Flasher

Postby shuhratm » Wed Jun 06, 2012 5:45 am

Hi all. Just got my E3 flasher and 2nd Cobra dogle (first one died while updating its firmware) and was wondering whether I would be able to use the cobra full functionality or will just be left with its downgrade functionality. I have 3.72 and plan to downgrade to 3.55 using E3 and sure the custom would be Rogero because that is the only thing E3 supports.

I have read tons of info about downgrading and few have told how to actually get rid of Rogero after downgrading to it. One of them is this: http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?t=33989. Too many uncertainities with this tutorial, but could not find any better.

Can anyone direct me to any resource that would help me put a Cobra CFW on my PS3 after I downgraded to 3.55 Rogero. Has anyone here done downgrading and put Cobra CFW on their PS3?

My minimum version is 3.50. Im good with soldering if this it is necessary.

Cobra USB doesn't support Rogero CFW only Cobra and NFW are supported. One must downgrade to Rogero, then QA flag your deck and downgrade back to 3.41 and from there update to Cobra 3.55 in order for it to work due to the lv2 latching needed for downgraded FW's that neither Cobra nor NFW have. I have both dongles and the E3 and this is the only way I can get Cobra to work after a downgrade. SO to recap

1- Make sure your PS3 came with at least 3.50 OFW if not just stop or you brick as one can't go lower then what came from the factory.
2- Dump NOR flash and ensure you have a valid dump before writing anything or you will not have a way to recover.
3- Downgrade to Rogero 3.55 v3.1 w/ 4.11 Spoof
4- QA flag your system, use Rebug QA token activation tool and set "Advanced" this is important not the normal one
5- Move the cursor select “Network Setting“ press the following button combo with your PS3 controller: L2 + L1 + R1 + R2 + L3 + D-pad Down
6- You are now QA flagged, enter recovery mode and install a OFW 3.50 or lower
7- Once on 3.50 OFW or whatever one can then simply update to Cobra 3.55 in recovery mode

If you follow those exact steps you will not brick and be using Cobra in no time. BTW if you have your old dongle PM me I might be able to help you recover as I bricked mine during one of the 4.XX updates but I am back on 5.0 and working great.

thanks for a quick reply. I suppose my problem is that I cannot downgrade to OFW/CFW 3.41 because my minimum downgrade is 3.50. Is that a big problem?
Do I do the QA Flag like it is explained in this tutorial??
1. Quick format your USB flash drive to fat32.
2. Place the toggle_qa.pkg file onto the root of your flash drive.
3. Put in your PS3.
4. Navigate to install packages and install the package.
5. Go to Toggle QA app on the XMB and click X.
6. You will here a beep and see a blackscreen, then it will return to the XMB. If it doesn't reboot and try again.
Steps 7. + 8. are not necessary. I do step 7. just to make sure the QA flag worked.
7. Then navigate to Network settings and press L1,L2,L3,R1,R2, and down on the d-pad.
Now more options will appear in your menu.
8. Navigate to Debug System Settings and enable it. (I did it without enabling this setting, but since e3 site says to do it in their guide, it doesnt' hurt.)

Like this???

After downgrading to Rogero, can I downgrade once more to OFW 3.50 for example?? Anything lower than 3.55 should be fine to then upgrade to Cobra CFW, right?

Check my new post you are ok as 3.50 will work I just use 3.41 as I have it on my HDD. So you can still do this.

1- Make sure your PS3 came with at least 3.50 OFW if not just stop or you brick as one can't go lower then what came from the factory.
2- Dump NOR flash and ensure you have a valid dump before writing anything or you will not have a way to recover.
3- Downgrade to Rogero 3.55 v3.1 w/ 4.11 Spoof install with freshly formatted FAT32 drive every time you switch FW's

Also please leave rep if you feel I helped so simplified the instructions. I made a post asking for help yesterday and now it is removed and I have no idea why other then I may have pissed off a mod by reping him badly for a sad remark made to someone asking a question and gave a piss poor answer that wasn't correct or even close.

A clarifying question about "lv2 latching" and "no_check" firmwares. If neither Cobra nor OFW have the "lv2 latching", I cannot install them on Rogero, right? After the QA flagging, I can install OFW but now Cobra CFW? Why is it so? Im supposing these are two are similar in the way that Rogero does not support them?? Or is it so that I can install any OFW over my Rogero when I want to? will this brick my PS3 too? I am trying to understand why does Rogero not allow changing to Cobra CFW in the first place.

Once you install the OFW by QA flag you can then use any CFW regardless of the lv2 check or check as they are the same thing. Once you downgrade to the OFW then back to Cobra it works, why I don't know I am not that technical but I can tell you I use it and never had a problem using this exact method I posted above using the same files.

QA flag bypasses the SYSCON check, as SYSCON holds the the FW version number (which is why you can only downgrade to a "no check" MFW/CFW)

Edit: then you could actually rehash SYSCON

Worked all night and finally got Rogero. Then using another tutorial from a russian web-site installed Cobra CFW. (I guess...games are working).
Now I have a question, how can I play games from external HDD? What folders do I have to put games in and what are the formats supported?

The following directories are accepted for playing backups from external using Cobra Dongle

· /dev_usbXXX/GAMES
· /dev_usbXXX/GAMEZ
· /dev_usbXXX/PS3ISO (for iso backups) Use genps3iso_v2.0 to create ISO images for backups on your pc , then copy to external.

The GAMES and GAMEZ are for JB format [Folder Format]
If we all are here to help others , then what exactly are others here for?

Yes, I read that in Cobra manual, but does "/dev_usbXXX/" mean the root folder of my 100GB Fat32 external? like "/root/GAMES" or "/root/GAMEZ"??
